OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES FOR THE STATE LEGISLATURE

THE STATE should be divided into square miles, then the voting districts should be established by population in as nearly a square as possible. This would avoid gerrymandering, such as our own Congressional District 3 which is more than 100 miles long and skinny, covering from north of Calhoun County all the way into the City of Montgomery. State Legislative District 40 is shaped like an apostrophe. Maps can be seen on the Alabama State Legislature’s website.

THE STATE should not own or operate any means of communication or public transportation, businesses, factories, or farms, and should not have a centralized plan for the use of land in the state.

THE STATE or anyone in the government should not seize property from anyone other than convicted criminals and then only to repay their victims and to pay for their incarceration.

Alabama has one of the most egregious election laws in the country. I want to change the law to make it easier for independents and third parties to get on the ballot and to eliminate filing fees so that the not-so-wealthy can run on the party tickets. We need more choices.
